An assistant professor appointment is available for a highly motivated
scientist in the field of Isotope Biogeochemistry or Isotope
Photochemistry in our program, “Earth: How to build habitable
planets?”, one of the 21st century COE program MEXT Japan at Tokyo
Institute of Technology.
Field of research
a) Isotope Biogeochemistry: Experiments on isotope fractionation in the
microbial biosyntheses and metabolisms of molecules and intramolecular
distribution of isotopes.
b) Isotope Photochemistry: Theories and experiments on mass independent
isotope fractionation in the photochemical reactions of sulfur and
oxygen bearing molecules.
Applicants with an interest in a) or b) should apply and a successful
candidate will work in the fully equipped isotope laboratory with 5
continuous-flow isotope ratio mass spectrometers, tunable diode laser
systems, and a high-resolution FTIR.

Qualifications
Candidates should hold a PhD degree in a relevant discipline at present
or before the time of employment.
Terms of employment
Full-time position dedicated to the COE program with annual contract,
initially from 1 October, 2006 or later until 31 March, 2007, and after
positive evaluation, the term can be extended until 31 March, 2009.
Gross salary will range between 5.5 and 6 million JPY per year including
tax, which is almost equivalent to the normal assistant professor at
Tokyo Institute of Technology.
