=====================================================================
Senior Research Associate (Requisition Number 019049), Lawrence
Berkeley National Laboratory

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) is located in the
San Francisco Bay Area on a 200-acre site in the hills above the
University of California’s Berkeley campus and is managed by the
University. A leader in science and engineering research for more than
70 years, Berkeley Lab is the oldest of the U.S. Department of Energy’s
National Laboratories.

The Center for Isotope Geochemistry (CIG) at Berkeley National Lab
seeks an individual to provide analytical support for research
projects. The primary responsibility will be performing a wide variety
of stable isotope analyses on diverse types of samples. This will
include sample handling and disposal, preparing samples for analyses,
running analyses on the mass spectrometers, ensuring good data quality
and compiling data into tables and graphs. The incumbent will also be
responsible for routine maintenance and repairs on laboratory
equipment, ordering and inventorying laboratory supplies, and assisting
other users with the facilities. Other potential activities include
limited participation in research projects involving the stable isotope
group. This may include development and testing of analytical
techniques required to support research, synthesis and interpretation
of data generated for the projects (possibly including presentation of
results at meetings and participation in preparation of manuscripts for
publication in peer-reviewed journals), and some field work.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Essential -- Two to five years of experience with stable isotope
analytical techniques, including operation and routine maintenance of
an isotope ratio mass spectrometer. Experience with other applicable
analytical techniques such as gas chromatography or ion chromatography
is also desired. Proven ability to coordinate and process analyses of
large numbers of samples in a timely fashion with minimal supervision.

Marginal -- Experience growing and maintaining cultures of
microorganism. B.S. or M.S. in geochemistry or a related field.
