Pier and others,

I have found in Russian text-book by Galimov (Moscow 1968) that H. Craig
(1954), J. Geol., vol. 62, issue No.2, has given delta-13C range for soft
tissue of marine organisms from -10.7 to -17.9 permil. However I have no
access to that journal to see if he really first defined delta value???
It is interesting that delta-34S appears much later in literature, perhaps
the first papers were by Vinogradov et al (1957), Geokhimia, No.2,183-186,
and by Thode et al. (1961),GCA vol.25,159-174.
There are no delta values in "Isotope Geology" by Kalervo Rankama (London
1954).

All the best,
Stan
