Research Officer/Research Assistant
Salary £20645 to £30902 per annum .
Applicants are invited for the position of Research Officer/Assistant in
Isotope Mass Spectrometry/Ion Chromatography/Absorption Spectrometry in
the School of the Environment and Society. The job is a fixed-term
position from December 2006 to June 2008 inclusive.
The successful candidate will work in the analytical Biogeochemistry and
Isotope Research Facility (.BioGeo Analytical.) being developed by the
Objective 1-funded WISE (Welsh Institute for Sustainable Environments)
project to provide analytical services and RTD to small- and medium-sized
enterprises in the Objective 1 area in Wales. He/she will (1) be
responsible for running and maintenance of advanced analytical equipment
and (2) acting as deputy for the Research Laboratory Director.
Applicants should possess at least a Bachelor degree (or equivalent) and
possibly a Ph.D. in a relevant subject (engineering, chemistry or the
environmental sciences) They should have direct and extensive
analytical research skills in the use, maintenance and development of one
or a combination of the following key analytical techniques within the
Laboratory, notably isotope analysis and gas chromatography/mass
spectrometry (GCMS); atomic absorption spectrophotometry; ion
chromatography; or equivalent advanced equipment. Direct experience in
the use of advanced chemical analysis of geological and/or biological
and/or water samples would be an advantage.
