ICG-2: Troposphere, Research Center Juelich
PostDoc Position
Isotopic Composition of Organic Aerosol
Job description
We invite applications for a PostDoc position dealing with organic particulate matter in the troposphere. The position is part of the group "Stable Isotopes in Aerosol" that focuses on the identification of sources and atmospheric processing of aerosol particles. Identifying the source of aerosol particles is essential to their control, if the source is anthropogenic and is crucial in understanding natural environmental processes if the source is biogenic. The successful candidate will focus on the application of isotope ratio mass spectrometry for aerosol analysis. The aim is to investigate particle sources, processing and transport in the atmosphere
Tasks:
Further tasks are the participation in simulation experiments at the simulation chambers of our institute (http://www.fz-juelich.de/icg/icg-ii/research/), collection of samples in various field campaigns, measurement of atmospheric samples and interpretation of the results, potentially using atmospheric and chemical mechanism models.
You are expected to present the results at international workshops and conferences, and write articles for peer-reviewed journals.
About us
The Research Centre Jülich is a multidisciplinary centre with more than 4200 employees working on a broad spectrum of research topics. The multidisciplinary orientation of the centre represents an opportunity: Pressing problems, such as long-term environmentally compatible energy supply or environmental protection, can be dealt beyond individual disciplines and have become the basis for work at the centre. At the Troposphere Institute (ICG-2) we study the physical and chemical processes in the atmosphere that are responsible for the conversion, distribution and removal of trace substances. This work is performed with the aid of experimental field studies, simulation experiments and model calculations.
Qualifications
An academic qualification equivalent to a German Doctorate degree in the field of physics, chemistry, meteorology, or a related discipline is required. We are looking for a candidate with pronounced interest in atmospheric chemistry and physics. Fluent English (written and spoken) and experience in experimental developments is desired. Particularly experience in aerosol measurement techniques, IRMS and GC are a pro.
The position is offered for two years, with payment according to a civil service position. The starting date is as soon as possible.
