Dear List,

(my apologies if you received this email twice)

Please inform interested parties of two open faculty positions at the
University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez (see formal advertisements below).
Our official advertisements will appear in EOS in the next few weeks.

A few quick points I would like to emphasize-

(1) Both positions are regular faculty, full-time, tenure track positions.
One is for a research oriented faculty member, the other is for a
teaching oriented faculty member.

(2) This may be of particular interest to those seeking a spousal hire,
as the target starting date for both positions is August 2007.

(3) The research position is advertised as 'open field', meaning that
qualified persons from any discipline of geology can (and are
encouraged to) apply. However, I send this advert. to ISOGEOCHEM
because one of the existing strength areas that we wish complement is
geochemistry. In particular we encourage those who use applications of
stable isotopes to address problems in areas of low-temperature
geochemistry to apply. This includes (but is certainly not limited to)
applications in climate, diagenesis, paleothermometry, corals,
sedimentary records, hydrology, environment, etc. The Geology
Department houses a GV Isoprime magnetic sector CF IRMS, Eurovector
EA (w/ LAS), a micromill sampler, and other devices. Applicants in the
area of low-T geochemistry who have demonstrated research records
and demonstrated operational experience with the above IRMS are
strongly encouraged to apply.

(4) The teaching position is open to all qualified applicants with a
demonstrated teaching record who hold a PhD in a geology-related field.

Position 1: Research-oriented regular faculty position

Tenure track faculty position University of Puerto Rico

The Department of Geology at University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez
invites applications for a tenure-track research position at the Assistant
Professor level with a start date of Aug 1, 2007. The applicant should
demonstrate the existence of, or potential for developing, an
internationally recognized, externally funded research program. We are
seeking candidates that can compliment our department’s strengths
(petrology, geochemistry, geophysics, applied geology, paleontology
and stratigraphy). The successful applicant is expected to teach courses
in introductory geology and undergraduate and graduate courses in their
area of expertise. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or show that they will
complete all degree requirements by the time of appointment.

Review of applications will begin April 15, 2007 and continue until the
position is filled. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a
statement of teaching and research interests, and the names and
addresses of at least three referees. The requested materials should
be sent to Dr. Aaron Cavosie, Chair Search Committee, either via e-mail
