Duties And Responsibilities The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for
the day-to-day operation including quality control and management of the
light isotope ratio mass spectrometer in the Department of Anthropology.
The facility will have a Finnigan Delta XP isotope ratio mass spectrometer
and all supporting equipment. Peripherals include an elemental analyzer, a
thermal combustion elemental analyzer, a gas bench, and the LC Isolink. The
individual will develop and implement the database for all results in the
laboratory; will be responsible for purchasing and general oversight of the
laboratory, including budgeting; will provide direction for the graduate
and undergraduate student working in the lab including assistance in
methodology to achieve research goals; will be responsible for all
analytical equipment in the newly installed Archeological Biogeochemistry
Laboratory. Method development and research into new analytical techniques
for archaelogical applications will be an important part of the position.
The incumbent will be responsible for learning and complying with all
safety regulations that apply to the laboratory.
Required Education, Experience and Skills Candidates should possess a
minimum of a Bachelor's degree with training in chemistry, physics or
geochemistry preferred, along with minimum of three years laboratory
experience. Previous experience with light isotope ratio mass spectrometry
will be favored. Detail-oriented and highly organized with an ability to
work on multiple projects simultaneously.
