In response to the many questions I have received off-line, Rice's
Negotiating the Ideal Faculty Position seminar this fall is open to
women regardless of citizenship. FYI, we give applicants the option to
include their CV in a database which we make available to colleagues
who have active faculty searches. A number of applicants made useful
job connections last year through this database. Colleagues who would
like access to this database can contact me after about Sept 1.
Here's the announcement again:
Dear Colleagues,
This October 14-16 Rice University will host our second workshop for
women in science and engineering on negotiating the ideal faculty
position. I would appreciate your advertising this seminar to your
female graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. The deadline
for applications is August 1, next week. Accepted attendees will have
their airfare, accomodations, and meals paid for. Seminar topics will
include:
finding the right institutional fit;
putting together a successful faculty application;
how to stand out in the interview;
how and when to negotiate a good start up package;
understanding the tenure process;
balancing work and family.
The application can be completed on-line at
