Aaron,

You did not specify what type of gas mixture you are separating.  If the 
samples has O2 and Ar in it, then these will elute from the standard EA 
GC column at the same time and interfere with the N2 peak.  Normal 
procedure is to inject before the Cu column to remove the O2, then 
through the water and CO2 traps to remove those gases.  Even so, it 
might still be better to then use a molecular sieve column to separate 
any trace O2 and the Ar from N2, rather than use a standard CN column.
