Dear Colleagues,

Regarding the enquiries for conical or round-shaped vials for carbonate
analysis of a few days ago, please find below the answer given by Labco
about the possibility of having some round-bottomed vials custom made. The
size indicated is the one that will fit into the heated block of our GVI
Multiflow, but I presume that if demand is adequate, they might be able to
manufacture other sizes.

Best regards,

>Dear Clemente,
>Ref: Round Bottomed Exetainer vial 54mm x 12.5mm
>Apologies for the delay replying. We have been checking the most economic
>way to make an initial manufacturing run We will make an initial run by
>combining the manufacture of the new round bottomed vial you require, with
>another size. This will make the price no more expensive than our standard
>flat bottomed 54mm x 12.5mm Exetainer.
>The length given in our catalogue and your email - 54mm - includes the cap.
>The vial itself is 50mm. Please confirm that this is the correct length you
>need in a round bottom version.
>As soon as we have the length confirmation, we will fit the run in,
>hopefully within the next 6 weeks.
>Apologies again for the delay.

>Dear Sirs,
>At the Stable Isotope Laboratory of Salamanca University we use, among
>other equipment, a "Multiflow" device manufactured by GV Instruments
>( This device uses a Gilson 222XL
>autosampler, with a heated block that hold vials up to 13 mm O.D. and up to
>60 mm high, so GVI originally recommended your "vial 7" screw-cap vial,
>with pierceable rubber septum, that we currently use for Water-CO2
>equilibration successfully.
>However, for a different type of analysis (CO2 extraction from carbonates),
>it would be desirable to have a round or conical-shaped bottom. Your "Vial
>5" (56 x 15.5mm, 5.9ml, Soda Glass, Round Bottom) appeared to be our
>choice, but then its O.D. is too large to fit in the heated block.
>So, my questions are as follows:
>- Would it be possible to manufacture a **round-bottomed** vial that is 54
>x 12.5mm?
>- If such, which one would be the minimum order that you would accept?
>- What would be the cost per vial + cap?
>Please note that several colleagues that are also GVI-users might be
>interested as well in such a vial (see recent comments in
