We modified the waste position on our H/Device with a "vacuum dryer" (a
metal cylinder with septa on top connected to an old rotary vane pump).
We clean the syringe with methanol and inject the methanol into the
vacuum line. For seawater we found that 3 wash cycles are enough, for
higher salinities we used to go for 6 cylces.

I tested aceton and ethanol instead of methanol. I got the impression
that the syringe runs more "smoothly" with methanol than with aceton.
However, this is not proved by any objective test result.

regards,
Robert
