Meredith,

The standard does not come with instructions for digestion for the
ICP-MS. In our ICP-MS lab, the wire is digested with diluted nitric
acid (full strength can cause oxidation).

Method employed:
0.1 g of Pb wire
Add 3 mL ddH2O and then 2 mL of concentrated nitric acid.
Digest at 100oC for 1hr.
Dilute digest to 100 mL.
Final concentration should be roughly 1000 ppm (depends on amount
digested).

Good luck!

Thanks to all for your reply. I am ordering the NIST 981 Natural lead
isotope standard which comes in the form of a 1.0 g wire. I was
wondering if this comes with instructions for digestion for the ICP-MS
or where to find the protocol for doing so. Thanks again.
