So.... not much from anyone but lots of requests for anything I found.
The attached document has both instructional web sites and "quizzes." It is a bit rough and only tested with one group of 12 fourth graders. I always have to tweak stuff after using it the first time, but I'm sharing it anyway because of the requests and to save all of you the time of browsing around to find similar web sites. It took forever to find these pages and I kept thinking I must have been overlooking the obvious somewhere. If I was - please send me the links!!!!!
There is no formal lesson plan, no formal assessment - just activities to get the kids thinking about what they did last year and to get them browsing around the Internet. As third graders some of these kids had difficulty with browsing around from one place to another - some even had trouble using a mouse! So, this gave us a chance to see who has improved from last year and who really needs help and extra time to build tech skills.
We only had about 40 minutes today and some of that time was consumed with making sure usernames and passwords worked. I'd suggest two 40 minute sessions - kids were asking - "when can we finish?" and there is also a need for a group discussion after all the pieces are completed. I would also like to add a site for them to explore about citation of resources/plagiarism. I did that section as a discussion before they got started (tweak #1).
I'll post it on VTCite, along with some other sites I found, after I use it a couple more times.
