Hi, Sandy (and School-IT list members),
At South Burlington we use Pinnacle Studio, currently version 8 in the Elementary Schools and the Middle School. We also just purchased 2 copies of Studio 9 for the HS with a grant and will probably order more in the future.
The high school also uses Adobe Premiere.
We've had good success with Studio 8 on machines purchased in the last couple of years. We've been purchasing the Studio Deluxe package, which gives one the ability to input from and output to both digital and analog tapes.
Studio is a "consumer grade" software package and does occasionally have glitches. But usually simply exiting the program and re-launching it fixes the problem.
Studio has been consistently rated highly in the trade rags and the May 4, 2004, PC Magazine lists it as the "Editors' Choice" for the "Consumer Video Editor" category.
We've created a video production resource page which you might find useful:

Hello!
We are considering purchasing video editing software for Windows
machines that reflects typical usage in Vermont schools. We would like
to know which software products are currently used in elementary/middle
school and high school.
We are not looking for high-end, professional video software because of
expense and application. The need here is for basic, easy to use,
software that students would use to create short videos that support
curriculum projects and don't require an extensive skill set in order
to understand and use.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations/advice.
Best regards
Sandy
