I know this has come up before, but a quick search of the archives yields
few "hard" numbers.
The situation: we created a position for full-time Technician in our two
schools, responsible for day-to-day maintenance, install, upgrades etc. The
pay scale is the same as for classroom assistants despite the need for tech
background, training or degree. Long-term we need to address this in the
contract (a special "category" with a different pay scale). Meanwhile I am
trying to find out roughly what other schools or districts are paying for
such a position to make sure we are at least being as fair as we can AND in
hopes that we can keep someone in that position for more than a year.
Training a new person each year defeats the purpose of having the additional
support!
Clearly a comparison to "industry" salaries is not appropriate: 36-hr week,
180 day contract with benefits.
Off-list responses are welcome.
Thanks,
