My wife had her elementary sped kids make Wallace and Gromit clay models
on wire frames (armatures). These were then posed with iMove, grabbing a
still for each of 30 poses with the camera on a tripod and a blue cloth
for a background. Once the footage was "shot," I grabbed one frame of each
pose, shortening the length and exporting that to the camera. Next, I
transferred the digital tape I had edited with titles and sound to a VHS
tape and sent it off to school.
Kids could have done all that; however her school doesn't have that
technology as yet. They loved the video they helped create and understood
why claymation took a lot of time. (their resulting movie ran about 12
seconds !!)
If you want to see Wallace lose his finger feeding a biscut to Shawn and
Gromit, go to ftp://www.windsor.k12.vt.us/ to download the quicktime
movie.(our 2 Siberian Huskies made filiming the biscuit part a real
challenge !!) It's a 1 MB file.
