I was all set to buy a netbook for personal travel and started reading reviews online. It doesn't appear that any of the netbooks have a built-in RJ11 port for dial-up and some of the places where I travel require it. I don't want to invest in mobile broadband for the limited amount of time that I would need it.

I do own an external USB 56K modem. Has anyone ever tried this with a netbook? If so, what was your experience with it? What netbook? What OS? Any driver issues? Is there any netbook that has a built in modem for under $500? I know I could get a larger, cheap laptop, but that would defeat the purpose, though I guess carrying around an additional modem already adds to the weight.

Thanks for information.

Joanne
