Department of Geology

Royal Holloway College, University of London is providing resources to
proceed with two Professorial appointments in the Department of Geology.
The Department of Geology attained level 4 in the 1996 RAE, "excellence" in
the last TQA, and was rated as a "top ten" Geology department in "The
Times" Best University Guide. The successful candidates are expected to
interact with existing research groups within Geology : Geochemistry,
Atmospheric Chemistry, Environmental Geoscience, Palaeobiology, and Basin
Evolution & Dynamics. Within the Geology Department there exists an
excellent analytical base (Sr-Nd-Pb lab, ICP-AES; C-O-N-H-S lab; XRD; XRF)
augmented by the delivery of an Ar mass spectrometer in 1998-99 and a HEFCE
funded ICP multicollector mass spectrometer in 1999. The Department houses
a structural analogue modelling laboratory, two computer workstation
laboratories, sedimentological and palaeontological research facilities.
The research programme of the successful candidates should benefit from,
and utilise, these analytical resources. The successful candidates should
be willing to contribute to the B.Sc., M.Sci. and M.Sc.teaching programmes.
Both positions offer unique opportunities to develop inter-departmental
research links with  Geography, Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Physics.

CHAIR IN GEOLOGY (quote reference CNK/516)

Applications are sought from candidates with a leading international
research reputation in Geology. The Department is seeking an outstanding
research scientist who will be expected to develop a research group, of
international standing, in any branch of geological sciences. The
department has geological research strengths in Geochemistry, Palaeobiology
and Basin Evolution and Dynamics.

CHAIR IN ENVIRONMENTAL GEOLOGY (quote reference CNK/506)

Applications are sought from candidates with a strong international
research reputation in Environmental Geology. The Department is seeking an
outstanding research scientist who will be expected to develop a research
group, of international standing,in a department with environmental
research strengths in atmospheric chemistry, water quality and waste
management. The appointee will be expected to participate in the MSc Course
in Environmental Analysis and Assessment.
