Laser users:

We once had a problem with fogging and etching of BaF2 windows on our
laser line, but have greatly minimized the problem by a series of
pre-treatments. We input BrF5 for one minute and pump it away, then we
repeat for 10 min. Our unproven explanation is that most water is removed
quickly which would otherwise make HF and do bad things if left in the
sample chamber overnight during a long pre-fluorination.
