Dear Steve,
I liked your remark on the use of a Macintosh, where the Y2K is not
known at all. Even my old 6200 machine, which is near antique in
computer sense, will work without problems till 2016 - and probably
that machine is used up before that time - not to mention the newer
machines, like a G3 or iMAC - although I have not controlled yet on my
G3 how long it will run without problems like this, but I expect for
quite a time.
Yes, I am a MAC edict - that saves me a lot of irritation not to be
condemned to Microsoft (or one has to jump to Linux, with all other
type of problems to get decent software - there exist at least 5
'user-friendly' interfaces for Linux, but are developers all going to
make versions for those?). And Windows is nothing more than a bad
immitation of the MAC-OS anyway.
But after this commercial (no I do not get any money from Apple for
this - unfortunately): Do companies like Micromass, Finigan and Europe
provide software which can run on a MAC-OS? They had the software for
the Apple II, but that obviously is useless on MAC-OS.
So, this correct suggestion to use a MAC to avoid any Y2K (if existing
at all for the MS software as was mentioned by some) has the problem:
does it exist? Maybe Steve can inform us about that - I have no idea
myself.
Best wishes,
Pier de Groot.
