Hi All:
There is an Automatic Solid Phase Gas Chromatograph Injector that can
introduce leaves or plant material, as well as many other powdered or
cut-up materials, into a GC or GC/IRMS without extraction. Its mechanism
is thermal desorbtion and the heat comes from the GC injector oven or, if
the material can be ground fine enough, one can inject a slurry with a
syringe onto a filament. The liquid is evaporated and the plant material
remains on the filament for heating up to as much as 3000 degrees
centigrade. Obviously you have to have an isotope ration GC/MS in order to
use it for your application. We have application notes showing the
recovery of THC from the leaves of a marijuana plant and analyzed on a
standard GC/MS.
