GEOANALYSIS 2000
4th International Conference on the Analysis of Geological and
Environmental Materials
GEOANALYSIS 2000 will take place from August 30 to September 1, 2000 in
Pont à Mousson, Lorraine, France. The meeting provides a forum for all
analysts and research analysts working in the geosciences to share
specifics of their analytical developments and explore measurement problems.
Deadline for abstracts and subscription is April 1, 2000.
A list of the symposia already planned is given below.
Further information on this conference will be available at the GEOANALYSIS
2000 website at http://crpg.crpg.cnrs-nancy.fr/NEWS/Geoanalysis-2000/
SYMPOSIA (oral & poster sessions)
1) Reference Materials for in situ Analyses
Convenors : Jean Kane & Michael Wiedenbeck
This symposium aims to make the point on existing reference material for in
situ analyses (techniques such as ion probes and laser ablation), for
elemental and isotopic measurements. Discussions on needed reference
materials and calibration techniques will be encouraged.
2) New Analytical Techniques for Isotopic Measurements
Convenors : Klaus Mezger & Jean-Louis Birck
This symposium will focus on isotopic measurements done with new
instruments, such as MC-ICP-MS, high resolution ICP-MS and SIMS and also on
new approaches such as NTIMS. All contributions on advances in isotopic
measurements will be welcome.
3) Major and Trace Element Analyses: New developments
Convenors : Richard Hinton & Klaus Jochum (?)
This symposium will focus on new analytical techniques for the
determination of elemental concentration and speciation of elements,
allowing lower limits of determination and higher reproducibility and
accuracy. Contributions on techniques using the coupling of instruments
(ex.: liquid chromatography - ICP-MS) are particularly welcome.
4) Analyses using Laser Ablation
Convenors : Bill McDonough & Simon Chenery
For this symposium, contributions will focus on laser ablation and laser as
the ion source coupled to instruments such as mass and atomic emission
spectrometers, in order to analyse in situ elemental and/or isotopic
compositions of geological materials.
SPECIAL SESSIONS (posters)
1) Reference Material and Analytical Developments With Continuous-Flow and
gas Mass Spectrometers (HCNOS)
Convenor : Kurt Kyser
This session aims to discuss on existing and needed reference material for
Continuous-Flow Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometers (HCNOS) and IRMS for
elemental and isotopic measurements. Contributions on sample preparation
and calibration techniques will also be encouraged.
2) Analytical Techniques Supporting Environmental Studies
Convenor : Olivier Donard
Environmental problems require the developments of new analytical
techniques in order to either better understand biogeochemical cycles or to
simply meet pollution levels according to new governmental regulations.
Contributions on such topics will be welcome.
3) Routine Analyses and Reference Materials for Geochemical Studies
Convenor : Jean Carignan
This session will be devoted to the development of analytical procedures
leading to routine analyses and to the use and characterisation of
reference materials for geochemical studies of various geological samples
(rocks, minerals, soils, waters, ...).
OPEN SESSIONS (posters)
Contributions on analytical developments in any fields of Earth and
Environmental Sciences will be welcome.
PLENARY LECTURES
Jean Kane : Reference Material in Geoanalytical Sciences.
Francis Albarede : Isotopic measurements using MC-ICP-MS.
Olivier Donard : Speciation measurements using gas-liquid chromatography
and ICP-MS.
Bill McDonough : Elemental and isotopic measurements using LA-MC-ICP-MS.
