Dear all,
writing software for replacing Isodat on the NT platform was anticipated
and has turned out to be a major task for Finnigan. Isodat is a single
platform for all mass specs and all peripheral units (dual inlet based
or carrier gas systems) from the company. The project was started
several years ago and is still ongoing. I have visited the factory in
December and I have been given a thorough presentation of what has been
achieved so far and what's in the plans.
Being a professional scepticist I have had numerous points to criticise,
but my overall impression has been very positive. I want to convert all
5 mass specs under my supervision to Isodat NT as soon as possible,
mainly due to the inconvenience in exporting data and because of the
enhanced possibilities of instrument status control in Isodat NT. Our
institute has netoutlets in every room, including the lab. Running the
mass specs under Windows NT would enable us to directly couple them into
the net and have access to them from where ever appropriate. I will be
able to completely convert only when all peripheral units
(GC-Combustion, H/Device, GasBench, ConFlo, CarboFlo and Precon) are
supported. This will take a while, but I am confident that most of my
machines will be running Isodat NT by the end of the year.
Regards Willi
