appropriate),
POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWS (4 POSTS) AND TECHNICIAN (1
POST) AT QUEEN'S UNIVERSITY, BELFAST, NORTHERN IRELAND (UK).
The ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING RESEARCH CENTRE (School
of Civil Engineering) at the Queen's University of
Belfast includes a dynamic group of 36 researchers
with expertise including hydrogeology, isotope and
noble gas geochemistry, microbiology, and
geo-environmental engineering. Applications are
invited from highly-motivated researchers/technicians
for the following 4 Post-Doctoral and 1 Technician
positions as advertised recently on
http://www.qub.ac.uk/jobs/ and in New Scientist.
POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW (Ref: 00/F532A) -
Contaminated Land Remediation Using Reactive Barriers. This
post, funded by the UK EPSRC to work with Prof. Kalin and
Dr. Walsh, is available for 30 months to carry out
laboratory and field study of reactive barrier use for
risk-management and remediation of contaminated land /
groundwater. Applicants must have or be about to obtain a
PhD in hydrogeology, geochemistry or related field.
Research experience in contaminated land or groundwater
remediation, or groundwater flow modelling is desirable but
not essential.
POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW (Ref: 00/F533A) -
Saturated/Unsaturated Zone Interaction and Formation of
Excess Air. This post, funded by the UK EPSRC to work with
Dr. Elliot, is available for 18 months to carry out
laboratory studies investigating vapour phase mechanisms at
the saturated / unsaturated zone boundary, and the
generation of excess air in groundwater. Applicants must
have or be about to obtain a PhD in hydrogeology,
hydrology, geochemistry or related field. Research
experience in groundwater recharge mechanisms, saturated /
unsaturated volatile transport or tracers in the saturated
and unsaturated zone is desirable but not essential.
POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW (Ref: 00/F534A) -
Enzyme-Specific Stable Isotope Fractionation During
Microbial Biodegradation. This post, funded by the UK EPSRC
to work with Prof. Kalin, is available for 2 years to carry
out laboratory based study of stable isotope fractionation
of sequential enzymes steps during microbial degradation of
simple halogenated compounds. Applicants must have or be
about to obtain a PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry,
Geochemistry, Microbiology or related field. Research
experience in compound-specific stable isotope measurement,
or microbial biochemistry is desirable but not essential.
POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW (Ref: 00/F535A) - Stable
Isotope Signatures of Natural Halomethanes. This post,
funded by the UK NERC to work with Professor Kalin and
Professor Harper (School of Agriculture and Food Science),
is available for 1 year in the first instance to carry out
laboratory-based study of stable isotope signature of
naturally produced halomethanes. Applicants must have or be
about to obtain a PhD in Geochemistry, Chemistry,
Biochemistry, Microbiology or related field. Research
experience in compound-specific stable isotope measurements
or microbial biochemistry is desirable but not essential.
