As someone who recently posted a 'position available' notice, I would
like to say that I found the list a very effective means of getting
the news out to the right community. I also cannot help but think it
is of value to the community to make these opportunities known. It
is far more effective to have them posted on the main list that is
regularly scanned and not some rarely-visited off-site. It is pretty
easy from the subject titles to pass them over if the recipient has
no interest.
I think it makes much more sense to restrict individual 'looking for
a job' memos, though I don't notice that there are so many of these
either as to be a real problem!
