Dear Isotopers,
may I forward a question by my colleague, Jenny Bester (a former
subscriber to the list):
Hi, everyone
I don't know if anyone is familiar with the sulfur extraction from coal
procedure written by Linda Westgate and Thomas Anderson in
1982. Linda Westgate and Thomas Anderson (1982) Extraction of
Various Forms of Sulfur from Coal and Shale for Stable Sulfur
Isotope Analysis. Anal. Chem. 54, 2136-2139. I have trouble
precipitating the sulfur in die cadmium acetate solution. I know
there is enough sulfur in the coal, as I had it analysed and when
using BaCl2 on some of the filtrates BaSO4 does precipitate.
Is the flow of the N2 gas or the 1 hour below boiling maybe so
critical that nothing would precipitate if I have the gas flow to high or
something?
Your help would be much appreciated
Jenny
