Dear Andrew, Eric and others interested,
recently, we tested various dessicants for water vapour sampling in the
tropopause:
Silica gel, molecular sieves 5A and 10A, LiCl, Mg(ClO4)2
We found that Mg(ClO4)2 produced the best results for both, oxygen and
hydrogen isotopes. However, memory water is about 0.15mg for 1g
dessicant. Thus, we had to abandon the idea of using dessicants in low
humidity environments. I am sure, it works at ground level in temperate
regions.
Thorsten.
