At UC Davis we generally have been analyzing hydrogen isotope ratios in waters
by the equilibration method utilizing Pt/graphite rods supplied by Finnigan.

Recently we had the experience of a few rods failing. Suspiciously, the
waters (from thermal vents) may have had sulfide and/or organics.

Has anyone had this experience? Is it known if/how the rods can be
reactivated? Does anybody have a feeling for the lifetime of the rods in
normal useage?

Thanks in advance.

Dave
