Dear Pat and Isogeochemists
I have appreciated the discussion on sulphate-O analyses as I will be
analysing barite samples in the near future. According to Pat Shanks it is
much easier to use the fluorination method rather than the reduction method
(heated C and Pt-plates). We have a CO2-laser BrF5 line which I would like
to use for sulphate-O (barite) analyses and I have a few queries with which
I hope you can help me. Apparently the fluorination method produces SF6
which will obviously affect the mass spectrometer. What is the best method
of separating the SF6 from O or CO2. Also will any compounds be formed that
will adversely affect the sample chamber BaF2 window?
