I am not familiar with the IsodatNT software, but this seems to be a
problem common to NT systems with a internet-type interface between the
mass spec and computer.
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ATTEMPT TO LOAD OR RUN EMAIL OR OTHER
INTERNET SERVICES. THEY WILL CRASH THE SYSTEM, GUARANTEED.
Archive all files as soon as each run is over (use the CD-RW if
available). Delete files weekly. RUN DEFRAGMENTATION MONTHLY.
Do not run anything else on this PC, ESPECIALLY the new versions of Office
that are internet-based. Office97 is the only compatible version that we
found.
If you still get strange errors, try reloading the device drivers, as the
signaling can be restored by this operation.
You may find that you can't add an external ZIP drive. These systems are
very happy with two internal CD drives, or CD and CD-RW. You can
efficiently review and reprocess data from a separate PC with these tools
(and they back up the data in the process).
We have found that the GC-MS is the only instrument that can tolerate some
deviation from these limitations. No doubt this is due to the inherently
smaller file size, as well as better software engineers...
