I am about to enrich fish food for Pacific herring I am holding in
captivity and I have a rather simple question regarding my enrichment
procedure. I plan to enrich food with a 15N-enriched (min. 98+ atom
percent) essential amino acid (L-Phenylalanine). How do I determine
the grams of actual 15N in, say, 5 grams of 98+ atom percent 15N?
Since L-Phenylalanine is 8.48%N, then if I have 5g of 98+atom percent
15N I should have 0.424g of 15N. Yes? No? Any input on this would be
greatly appreciated.
Also, anyone out there doing similar work (vertebrates and inverts)? I
would like to hear from you since this aspect of natural enrichment
(i.e. controlled experiments) is something I would like to discuss with
others'. Thanks.
