POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSISTANT (Ref: 00/F504A)

Funded by the European Regional Development Fund this post is available
immediately until 31 December 2000, with a possible extension to a total
period of one year. The successful applicant will work on the development
of a method for the accurate measurement of re-aeration as a means of
improving river water quality. The post will involve laboratory tests and
field trials of equipment recently developed at Queen's University for
measuring re-aeration in rivers and estuaries. Applicants must have or be
about to obtain a PhD in water chemistry or a similar discipline, have
experience relating to water quality and practical experience in relevant
laboratory analysis techniques. Full criteria will be available in
applicant packs.

POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSISTANT (Ref:00/F505A)
(Environmental Engineering Research Centre/Environment Tracers Laboratory)

Funded by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC),
the post is available for 18 months to carry out laboratory studies
investigating mechanisms of entrainment of air bubbles and associated
volatiles (which include noble gases) from the unsaturated zone in the
subsurface and the generation of a so-called dissolved "excess air"
component in groundwaters.
Applicants must have or be about to obtain a PhD in hydrogeology,
geochemistry, environmental engineering, environmental chemistry, or a
related field together with research experience in groundwater chemistry or
environmental sciences. Applicants must also be able to demonstrate the
ability to carry out laboratory experimental design, monitoring, sample
analyses and experimental interpretation. Full criteria will be available
in applicant pack.

Salary: Research Grade 1A - £16,286 - £19,869 per annum, initial placing
