Dr. Campbell forwarded the message regarding separation of qtz and kfsp on
using a piece of paper. I am working on quartz and adularia veins in a
Tertiary granitic pluton. One of the methods we used after obtaining
relatively pure qtz-fsp seprates using heavy liquids was to use the
dielectric properties of qtz to repel the qtz in a Franz magnetic
separator. Dr. Bill Mcintosh recommended this method and it worked
suprisingly well. Using a very low angle, tilting the sample chute
back torwards the magnet, high field strength and putting
the sample in the side away from the magnet, the quartz was repelled
enough to overcome gravity which caused the fsp to fall toward the magnet
and the quartz remained on the high side of the chute.

I hope that I have been able to describe the method clearly. If you have
questions or comments please feel free to contact me. Good Luck

Sarah Wilson
