Dear listmembers,
In a similar vein as Prof. Guan's query, I am looking for information on
ancient algae. Those of you who are working in this field will know that
most of the work is done on organic matter, particularly amorphous organic
matter (AOM), in palaeo-marine environments, e.g. the work done by
Simoneit et al. (1993, GCA v57, p4205-4211) and Lewan (1986, GCA v50,
p1583-1591). Is anyone aware of work that has identified freshwater algae
(cynobacteria) in seds of Palaeozoic age? Is there any reason why ancient
marine algae (13C values of about -17 per mil) should have 13C values any
different to freshwater algae?
Kevin
