Dave-
I know of one publication concerning automated analysis of d18O through
pyrolysis and rumour of another out there somewhere of very recent vintage.
The old-fashioned (non-automated)  way is very labor intensive and
extremely cumbersome.  Here's the reference I know and I'll hunt for the
other:

Werner, R.A. et al. 1996.  On-line determination of d18O values of organic
substances.  Analytica Chimica Acta, v. 319, p. 159-164.
