Dear Dr Morrison,
I have seen your announcement of a Lab Technician vacancy on the
ISOGEOCHEMLIST. I would like to apply for this and am assembling the
necessary documents to post to you.
I have just completed my M.Sc. in chemistry at University of
Waikato using two isotope ratio mass spectrometers (Micromass 602, and
Europa 20/20). In this I was involved in the testing of a new device for
online carbonate preparation (CAPS) and produced the first geochemical
analyses from the Europa 20/20, now marketed as the GEO. These results were
published in a conference precedings last year. My thesis involved the
separation of, identification of and analysis of planktic and benthic
foraminifera from a number of cores off the east coast of New Zealand in an
effort to establish the chronology of the arrival of glacial meltwater in
this part of the Pacific.
I have lately been acting as a technician running the two isotope
ratio mass spectrometers for the Department of Earth Sciences while a
permanent technician was being sought.
I am currently 25, unmarried and available for immediate
employment, and have been supporting myself throughout my university career
by working as a supermarket supervisor. I have also been employed for three
years, on a part time basis, as a laboratory and field trip teaching
assistant. This position finishes next week with the end of the academic
year.
My supervisor, Dr Chris Hendy, has agreed to act as a referee. He
can be contacted at this e-mail address. I will send the names and
addresses of the other two shortly.

Claudine van der Veen (Miss)
