Dear Gregory and other listmembers concerned,
This is the (sad) story as I know it. Unfortunately, there is no
clear flow of information, so, everything has to be taken with a
pinch of salt. In other words, don't quote me on that.
At the beginning of last week, Europa Scientific went in
receivership. One source has it that this step was enforced by the
bank(s), another says that this step was taken as a precaution by
Europa Scientific herself, i.e. this is a voluntary administrative
receivership. The only indisputable fact appears to be an advert
in this Monday's Financial Times offering Europa Scientific as
business for sale.
The receivers have ordered a total intel blackout, thus preventing
Europa from putting out any positive or reassuring messages, be
it individually or be it via the Internet.
As to the future, again there seem to be two schools of thought. One
claiming that competitors such as Finnigan, Micromass, Analytical
Precision are waiting in the wings to take Europa over lock, stock
and barrel, or at least to cherry pick technology and know how. The
other has it that Europa people are pulling out all the stops to put
together a rescue package (management buy-out).
Until this situation is resolved one way or another, nothing is
happening whatsoever. With the sole exception of outstanding orders;
apparently the receivers decided to take on a skeleton staff on a
contract basis to meet outstanding obligations.
Maybe other listmembers know more or a different part of the story.
Cheers,
Wolfram
