Dear Isogeochemers,
As a reminder to those who have not yet returned their "expression of
interest" for the AIG-3 meeting (Orléans, France, Sept. 21-25), I am
posting the first announcement anew (first posting was Nov. 11, 1998).
If there is a reasonnable chance that you might attend and/or contribute
to the meeting, please, return an "expression of interest" form" as soon
as possible. Having a precise count of potential participants will
greatly help the organizing committee in negotiating special prices for
hotel & meals accomodations.
For those who need a little extra time, WE ARE EXTENDING THE DEADLINE
FOR "EXPRESSION OF INTEREST" TO JANUARY 25, 1999.
To date, we have received forms from over 50 potential contributors
originating from 22 countries around the world. Tentative titles of
presentations cover a variety of areas in applied isotope geochemistry,
including :
origin and fate of various (mineral and organic) compounds in the
environment,
storage of radioactive waste,
thermometry in diagenetic-metamorphic processes,
geochemistry of hydrocarbons,
dating shales,
illitization of smectites
atmospheric processes and climatology
soil & weathering,
hydrology
advances in CF-IRMS
...
A number of contributors asked about the possibility of presenting more
than one paper. Because we would like to keep the size of the meeting
"human", we intend to limit the total number of presentations to 100 or
less. At this time, the limit of 100 is not reached and chances are
multiple submissions will be permitted. Do not hesitate to propose
several tentative titles on your "expression of interest" form.
Additional information about multiple submissions will be given in the
2nd circular.
Looking forward to reading from you shortly.

MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT (1st circular)
3rd International Symposium on Applied Isotope Geochemistry (AIG-3)
September 21-25, 1999, Orléans, France
The 3rd International Symposium on Applied Isotope Geochemistry (AIG-3)
will be held at the Domaine des Portes de Sologne, Orléans, France,
September 21-25, 1999. The conference will be hosted by BRGM
(http://www.brgm.fr).
AIG is a working group of the International Association of Geochemistry
and Cosmochemistry (IAGC). Past meetings have been held in Geiranger,
Norway (1993) and Lake Louise, Canada (1997). The AIG symposium is
intended to bring together researchers from academic institutions as
well as from the industry, who specialize in the application of isotope
geochemistry to Earth Sciences. The primary goal is to promote
discussions and exchanges among scientists on the newest isotope
technologies used in applied research.
Contributions dealing with all aspects of applied isotope geochemistry,
with equal emphasis on methods, instrumental developments and
applications, are welcome. Contributions in the field of water resources
and environmental issues are particularly encouraged. It is highlighted
that the multidisciplinary nature of the symposium will particularly
benefit students through exposure to a wide range of applications and
techniques. Both oral and poster contributions will be considered. To
avoid concurrent sessions, the number of oral presentations will be
limited.
The Domaine des Portes de Sologne is located immediately South of
Orléans on the border of the Sologne forest and 20 minutes away from
some of the most famous Chateaux de la Loire. The hotel provides high
quality service including fitness, golf and pool/spa facilities.
