Now that I've hit the return button inadvertantly, let me clarify the problem.

I purchased the recommended Labco exetainer vials for the Finnigan Gasbench
II. They do not contain heparin, but they are coated with "silicone".
Upon adding DI water and shaking the vials, there is a foam or suds that
are not present if the vials are subsequently rinsed and shaken.

I've had results for 18O that are outside specification and 13C results
have been a little worse. I am currently running cleaned vials to see
whether this "foam", whatever it represents, is contributing to less than
desireable precision.

For the record, I originally intended to send a private message to Zach. I
had no intention of taking a public "shot" at Finnigan's products or
service engineers. The Gasbench II is a fairly new product and the
engineer who is on site has had,in relative terms, a lot of experience with
it.

Now, I will attempt to corral enough brain cells an use the reply button
properly.
