Dear all,
after struggling with persistent tailing of the CO2 peak (see my mail
from Feb. 18th) I would like to thank all those who provided ideas as
to what the causes and potential remedies could have been.
Since a number of people contacted me asking me to publish the
results of my inquiry on the list, I do so after I finally managing
to solve the problem.
I had written that both oxidation and reduction columns were new, as
was the Anhydrone water trap. But in my case, the copper in the
reduction column must have begun to be turned into copper oxide very
quickly - I found it completely oxidized when I finally in despair
took every bit apar again. This was apparently caused by two tiny
fractures in the oxidation column where air seems to have been sucked
into the system. Since renewed exchange of the (previously newly
fitted) two columns, the system has been running smoothly and without
any further CO2 tailing.
Thanks again to everybody taking part in the hunt.
