Hi all,
I agree that printed books are still the most convenient thing to read,
simply because it is much faster to take the book and read from it
than launching an application (perhaps waiting the system to boot - even
if it is a non-wintel one it will take many seconds).
However, I am less pessimistic about the long way there is to go
until we have paper books replaced - I think it will be definitely
less than a decade until they become obsolete (and still in use,
of course).
It would be nice to have a book on CD-ROM (just think on having
that CD inserted in your portable MCA in the field), my preference
here would be for platform independent data formats.
Web based is probably the way to go, though we are not that far,
communications are not yet fast enough - but this seems to change
faster than we expect. Actually if well organised so one can
navigate a document easily and without having to download much
redundant information, I think such a book can be made convenient
even now - for locating some particular piece of info, not for
reading and learning.
