Dear Graeme

I think the plastic bottles are OK for the short time storage. we regular
do 13C and 14C analyses and most samples come in plastic Nalgen bottles. I
have some experience with brines, they are horrible.
I found that the best way to clean that kind of samples from S compounds is
purification of CO2 after extraction from solution. I collected gas in the
tube with Cu, CuO and Ag sealed them of and heated for 2-3 hours under t=525C.
That method works fine and we did not have a problem with graphitization
after this purification.

What is the best way to treat for sulfur in the oilfield brines before
extracting the CO2 ?
