POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
PLANT PHYSIOLOGICAL ECOLOGY

A two-year postdoctoral position is available to study the mechanisms
controlling whole-plant and leaf nitrogen isotope composition. The
objectives of the project are to 1) determine how different mechanisms of
nitrogen absorption alter plant nitrogen isotope composition, 2) quantify
the dependence of intra-plant variation in isotopic composition on nitrogen
source (ammonium, nitrate) and nitrogen cycling within the plant, and 3)
test a model that predicts relative use of different nitrogen sources in
the environment based on plant and soil nitrogen isotope composition. The
successful applicant will have the opportunity to conduct field research in
desert and forest ecosystems. The position will be available summer 1998.
A Ph.D. is required, experience in physiology, physiological ecology, or
modeling preferred. More information will be posted soon at
http://comp.uark.edu/~devans/evans.html. To apply please send an
application letter with research interests and experience, CV, and three
letters of reference to the address below. Review of applications will
begin 1 March.
