The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Arkansas is
pleased to announce special Graduate Research Fellowships for outstanding
applicants. These are four-year positions available August 1998. The
Fellowships will cover all tuition and fees and will provide a stipend of
$20,000 per year. Department faculty
(http://comp.uark.edu/~wetges/EEpage.html) have strong research programs in
evolution, population biology, community ecology, and physiological and
ecosystem ecology. Opportunities exist for field work in desert, grassland,
and forest ecosystems throughout North and South America. Through the
department's USGS Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, our programs
also emphasize the continuing importance of applied ecology and natural
resource management. Collaborative association with the University's Center
for Advanced Spatial Technologies (CAST) (http://www.cast.uark.edu) allows
graduate opportunities in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The
Department will also house modern stable isotope mass spectrometer
facilities in the Stable Isotope Science Center of the Ozarks (SISCO)
beginning spring, 1999. Further information on the Department and faculty
can be found on our homepage http://comp.uark.edu/~bioinfo/bisc.html) or by
contacting individual faculty members.
