ICP-MS RESEARCH SCIENTIST ASSOCIATE


The Department of Geological Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin
seeks a Research Scientist Associate IV to oversee its new ICP-MS
laboratory, which will house a state-of-the-art, magnetic-sector inductively
coupled plasma mass spectrometer and laser ablation system equipped with
multiple ion-counting and multiple Faraday detection channels.  The
successful applicant must be able to operate and maintain the instrument and
related facilities as well as develop new analytical procedures for research
in high-precision isotope and trace element analysis.  Collaboration with
faculty and research scientists to interpret and publish results in
peer-reviewed journals and to write grant proposals that support research
with this instrument will also be required.  A Ph.D. Degree in geology,
geochemistry or a related science is required.  In addition, we prefer a
minimum of two years of experience operating an ICP-MS or multicollector
thermal ionization mass spectrometer with ion-counting detection.  Please
