Recommendations for black carbon standards have recently been released on
the web at <http://www.du.edu/~dwismith/bcsteer.html>. These recommendations
were prepared by the "International Steering Committee for Black Carbon
Reference Materials," formed during the 1999 Geochemical Society Meeting
(Goldschmidt Conference). The proposed collection is intended to serve soil,
oceanographic, atmospheric, and environmental engineering and science
research communities, and has to be chosen to balance a number of competing
demands.

Prior to beginning acquisition and production of the reference materials,
the committee seeks your feedback in order to determine if these standards
will meet your research needs. Please visit our web site and comment on our
recommendations.
