Hi all -

I've had a number of calls over the past few days from people inquiring
about the status of the local competitive technology grants. I had earlier
indicated that we hoped to complete the review process and announce awards
by the end of July. For a variety of reasons, this did not happen. I
apologize for the amount of time this process is taking.

While $1 Million will be awarded in this program, the approximately 125
applications for funding requested far more than $2.5 Million dollars. About
70% of the applications have come from schools with Free and Reduced Lunch
percentages that exceed the state average.

The review process is underway, and we hope to announce awardees by late
August or early September.

Thank you for your ongoing patience. This first year under NCLB is a
learning experience for all of us.

We appreciate and admire the work you do and recognize how important it is
for you to know the status of this funding.

Regards,

Bill Romond
