Subject: Getting the word out: Online TCO Workshop for School Leaders



NEIRTEC Region Technology Directors,

NEIRTEC has collaborated with the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN)
and the Satellite Educational Resources Consortium (SERC) to build an
online workshop targeted at Smart Budgeting: Technology Total Cost of
Ownership.  A leader in the area of technology planning from CoSN will
facilitate the workshop, and it will begin in mid-October.

I have attached a copy of a workshop brochure detailing the workshop goals
and registration information.  We are looking for your support in helping
us distribute the brochure to potential participants via appropriate
listservs in your state.  The workshop is intended for K12 School leaders
charged with technology planning including Chief Technology Officers and
Directors, Financial Officers, Principals, school board members, and other
decision makers.

Participants will:

·     Gain an understanding of the best strategies for budgeting for
technology.
·     Learn the importance of budgeting adequately for the "soft costs" of
staff development and tech support, in addition to hardware.
·     Evaluate the way their schools or districts budget for technology and
compare that approach with the experience of other school districts.
·     Gain a better understanding of the financial trade-offs involved in
choosing certain technological approaches.
·     Learn the benchmarks other technology leaders use when they build
their budgets.
·     Learn from the experiences and ideas of other school/district
leaders, thus becoming part of a collegial network of learners.
