Hi all -

Vermont is well-supported through a regional agency, known as "NEIRTEC",
that sponsors a variety of opportunities for Vermont educators that
strengthen our ability to use technology well in our work with students.
Once again, NEIRTEC is sponsoring a course called "Designing for Technology
Integration"... a 7-week online AND face-to-face program. Significantly, the
two-day face-to-face session is scheduled for October 24 & 25, the days of
Vermont's State Convention. These particular days were selected with Vermont
in mind.

Please take a good look at this opportunity (described in detail below) as
it fits well with Vermont's Transitional Technology Planning process and
will strengthen our abilities to use educational technology in the most
appropriate and meaningful ways.

NEIRTEC announces the next session of
*** Designing for Technology Integration ***
- an innovative seven-week course combining online learning with a two-day
face-to-face institute. The course starts October 9 and ends November 26.

A two-day face-to-face Institute (part of the course) will take place on
October 24-25 (Thurs-Fri) in Lebanon, NH. We encourage applications by
Monday, September 16.

This is the first of two sessions of the NEIRTEC DTI course that will been
scheduled for the 2002-2003 school year. For more information
on the DTI course and to register, visit our website at
http://neirtec.terc.edu and click on Enroll.

The DTI course will give you the opportunity to learn how technology can be
used as a teaching and learning tool that supports student and teacher
inquiry, problem solving, and higher order thinking skills and extends
creative thinking processes. Using the design principles and strategies
called Good Models of Teaching with Technology (GMOTT), this course will
guide you through the design of a unit of practice that can be used in your
classroom, school, or district. Creating this unit (a professional
development workshop or a curriculum unit) will strengthen your
understanding of how to design, use, and promote effective models of
technology integration in your school or district.

NEIRTEC is the Regional Technology in Education Consortium for the
Northeast and serves the six New England States, New York, Puerto Rico, and
the Virgin Islands. NEIRTEC focuses on helping educational leaders at the
state, district, and school levels address the many challenges involved in
linking technology to student achievement in the core academic areas, with
a particular emphasis on the needs of schools in underserved urban and
rural communities. To view our online resources, learn about other online
courses we offer, or to find out more about NEIRTEC, see
http://www.neirtec.org.

Enrollment is open to individuals from the NEIRTEC region only: this
includes the six New England states plus New York, Puerto Rico, and the
Virgin Islands.

ENROLLMENT: Approximately 30 participants will be selected. We are seeking
individuals who have a leadership role (administrator or teacher-leader)
and knowledge of curriculum. Participants must agree to participate in
all online and face-to-face activities.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
1. school-based staff including principals, assistant principals,
curriculum and/or technology integration specialists, library-media
specialists, and teacher-leaders (e.g., teachers serving on a curriculum or
technology committee);
2. central office staff with curriculum or professional development
responsibilities, including directors of curriculum, technology directors,
curriculum coordinators, professional development coordinators, and those
responsible for program evaluation;
3. state department of education staff with responsibilities for
curriculum, professional development, technology, and/or program
evaluation; and
4. staff of intermediate units with responsibilities for curriculum,
professional development, technology, and/or program evaluation.

We encourage teams of leaders from a single school (maximum 2) and/or teams
from a single district (maximum 4) to plan to attend together.

EXPENSES: Registration is $200/person. This fee includes all course
materials, continental breakfast and lunch on both days of the face-to-face
institute, and dinner the first evening of the institute. The cost of

their districts. We will arrange a group discount rate at a local hotel
and anticipate that the lodging cost will be $75 - $85 /person each night.
Specifics about lodging will be sent after you have received your notice of
acceptance.

The course is offered for graduate credit. Three graduate credits will be
given for participation in the online course, the face-to-face institute,
and completion of a unit of practice. The cost of the graduate credit
