        The University of Vermont Libraries are planning a one-day
conference on "Libraries and the Future of Information" in January 1999 to
kick-off a semester-long series of workshops on the evolving nature of
university and medical libraries in a rapidly changing information
environment.  We are looking for a dynamic, engaging, and
thought-provoking speaker -- one who has a broad understanding of today's
(and tomorrow's) information landscape -- to serve as the plenary speaker.
Specifically, we would hope that the speaker could address implications of
new information technologies for research and scholarship in the
twenty-first century, in a multi-disciplinary context.  Following the
plenary presentation, there will be a response panel addressing
information technology issues from different perspectives and small
break-out sessions.
